Corrosion Resistance of Absorbable Mg-Ca Based Alloys in Physiological Environment by Daniel Jogaib Fernandes in Open Access Journal of Biomedical Engineering and Biosciences (OAJBEB) - Lupine Publishers

The objective of this work was to investigate the electrochemical behavior of Mg40Ca and Mg-Ca-Gd alloys for biomedical application as implantable absorbable devices. Electrochemical tests were performed under a physiological electrolyte of 0.9% NaCl, pH=7.4, 37°C, at a rate of 1, 0.1 and 0.01 V/s. Polarization curves showed similar mechanism of electrochemical behavior between alloys. The ternary Mg-Ca-Gd alloy showed lower values of current density and corrosion potential than Mg40Ca alloy. The Mg40Ca based binary alloy showed higher values of corrosion susceptibility and lower polarization resistance than Mg-Ca-Gd alloy. Corrosion resistance improvements were achieved in ternary Mg based alloy with Gd and Ca content. The alloy with Gd and Ca content seemed adequate electrochemical resistance to attend biomedical demand.

Liquid Biopsy in the OMICS Era of Tumor Medicine by Denong Wang in Open Access Journal of Biomedical Engineering and Biosciences (OAJBEB) - Lupine Publishers

Liquid biopsy uses noninvasive blood test to assess tumor heterogeneity and evolution in real time. It looks for tumor components in the blood circulation, such as circulating tumor cells (CTCs) and circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA), to provide tumor- specific information. By detecting multiplex tumor biomarkers, including nucleic acids, proteins, carbohydrates, and other tumor- derived substances, liquid biopsy helps with early tumor diagnosis, tumor evolution monitoring, and prognosis prediction. With the development of high-throughput OMICS tools like carbohydrate microarray and high-speed fiber-optic array scanning technology (FAST scan), it is now practical to identify glycan markers of CTCs and cancer stem cells(CSCs), especially those that are cell-surface exposed and readily accessible for immune recognition and targeting. Potential of this class of biomarkers in tumor sub typing and targeted immunotherapy is yet to be explored

Immunological and Mathematical Variations in Migraineous Patients by Sanjeev Kumar in Open Access Journal of Biomedical Engineering and Biosciences (OAJBEB) - Lupine Publishers

In the present work we have used some of the most clinically important and tested techniques Radial immuno diffusion to the study the disease which is Migraine. we have estimated the immunological Parameters. It is very interesting that the levels of IgG are higher in comparison to the healthy person. Statistical methods were applied to test the significance of the data at 0.05 percent level of significance. Regression lines were also made to see the effect of one parameter on the others. A clear cut differentiation was found in the immunological variations. The mean values and standard deviation in normal is found (17.24 ± 17.69) g/l, while in migraineous patients was higher and equal to (19.59 ± 22.75) g/l.

Evaluation of Knee Kinematics in Single Radius versus Multi-Radii Total Knee Arthroplasty in India Population : A Randomized Control Trial by Ankur Sharma in Open Access Journal of Biomedical Engineering and Biosciences (OAJBEB) - Lupine Publishers

Single radius (SR) TKA implant designs are theoretically claimed to overcome "mid-flexion instability" and decrease quadriceps loading encountered in multiple radii (MR) designs. However, limited/no data is available to support SR over MR designs especially in Indian population. The present study is a randomized controlled trial, comparing SR (n=17) and MR (n=13) knee kinematics based on clinical scores (Knee Society Score; KSS), radiological (Lotke score), fluoroscopic, and electro-goniometric data in patients. Fluoroscopic evaluation was done by contour based (2D/3D) registration technique.
